The Music of Proof: What Does Maths Sound Like?

This is a past event from Manchester Science Festival 2017.

Is there maths hidden inside music? Is there music hidden in maths? Join PRiSM (the Centre for Practice & Research in Science & Music) at the RNCM to explore the eternal connection and differences between the art of music and the science of maths. Listen to a new collection of miniatures for string quartet: five short movements each associated with a different mathematical idea. Play with a new app that will match the maths in musical fragments. Join composer Emily Howard and mathematician Marcus du Sautoy to discuss how maths and music are intertwined.
