Plastic brains sit in rows on a circular shelf.

Into the Grey Zone

This is a past event from Manchester Science Festival 2017.

Dare you delve into the ‘grey zone’ – the twilight world of consciousness between awareness, sleep, coma and death? Dr Roger Highfield talks to neuroscientist Dr Adrian Owen to discover how he made headlines worldwide by using brain scanners to communicate with people thought to be in a vegetative state. Investigate the largest ever study of sleep, where tens of thousands of volunteers recorded their sleeping habits, and underwent tests of brain function. Often called the most complex object in the human universe, you’ll experience first-hand why the brain is the great unknown and explore the twilight zone between awareness and eternal rest.
