The film poster for Contagion

This is a past event from Manchester Science Festival 2016.

Watch critically acclaimed 2011 thriller film Contagion, followed by a Q&A session with scientists involved in viral outbreaks like Ebola, SARS and HIV. Discuss the popularity of pandemic scenarios on screen, how science is depicted in mass entertainment and the real-life fight against infectious diseases.

The Q&A panel will include author and lecturer Dr David A Kirby (Lab Coats in Hollywood), computational virologist Professor David Robertson and immunologist Dr Joanne Pennock – all part of the University of Manchester – and Peter Scott, a clinical research specialist and member of ISARIC (International Severe Acute Respiratory and Emerging Infections Consortium).
