International appearance invite for MSF poets

Scientist (and poet) Sam Illingworth and poet (and scientist) Dan Simpson, the organisers of Manchester Science Festival hit Experimental Words, have been invited to deliver a residency and tour of the show at Chicago Botanic Gardens.

The science poetry slam show will feature five Chicago Botanic Garden scientists paired with spoken-word artists from Young Chicago Authors and RHINO to collaborate on a new performance, celebrating the creative similarities between science and the performing arts.

The duo will also be leading a creative short walk through the garden to inspire visitors’ own experimental verse and presenting at a symposium.

The events are part of the Unearth Science Festival.

Experimental Words first appeared on the Manchester Science Festival programme in 2015, and has been a firm favourite ever since.

Manchester Science Festival Partnerships and Collaborative Programme Manager Tania Seher Wilson said: “A delegation from Chicago visited Manchester in October, and we introduced them. We’re really excited about this opportunity for Sam and Dan, both of whom are great ambassadors of the festival and museum.”
