Manchester Science Festival 2011
22 - 30 October 2011

Science and engineering extravaganza

Lego

For the biologist at heart, a look at the creepy-crawlies in Manchester’s rivers, canals, and ponds will be a thrill, as will our Peatbog conservation talk.

If the human body is more your thing, we’ve got that covered, too! You can experiment with Hollywood techniques, controlling an avatar with a Motion Capture suit, or you can learn about fingerprinting techniques and take away your own fingerprint! And in the BioMechanics Lab, come discover how your muscles, joints and brain work together to move your body: amazing science!

Engineers will be busy with our brilliant robotics and soundprocessing demonstrations, too! Or come along to an exhibit of the year’s best radio-controlled model airplanes built at MMU. Also, come check out some student-designed racing cars (petrol and electric) and talk to the engineers about the exciting world of racing! And don’t forget to check out the working exhibit of the 37 litre Rolls Royce Griffon engine in the quadrangle. The Griffon engine remains in service to this day powering the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Fleet. Listen out for its awesome roar!
