Using chemistry to discover new medicines and improve lives

The talk will describe how chemistry is used to discover new medicines, illustrated with some recent successes. In addition, a historical perspective and will be covered to show where drugs have come from, how they work and to show how modern methods have changed the industry. Some future challenges will be presented to give a perspective to those contemplating a career in the pharmaceutical industry about what the future challenges might be. The talk will show chemistry which is important for understanding the processes involved but will be presented in a way which is understandable to those with a limited knowledge of the subject.

This lecture is suitable for any A-level scientists, in particular thos studying Chemistry.
