After School Science Club: Blocks

This is a past event from Manchester Science Festival 2017.

Only blockheads think LEGO’s just for kids. Welcome to After School Science Club, Manchester’s adults-only science night for the young at heart. This year, our theme is blocks, and we’re collaborating with LEGOLAND Discovery Centre. Join a carefully curated selection of maths and science specialists around our giant LEGO table for a night of live talks, experiments, competitions and freebies themed around everything from mental blocks to the building blocks of the universe. As always, there’s a bar – and no homework!

Speakers include:

  • Nanochemist Suze Kundu, taking a close look at the tiny building blocks that all matter is made of
  • Author, presenter and astrobiologist Lewis Dartnell, talking about The Knowledge you’ll need to rebuild civilisation block by block
  • Neuroscientist/speech communication researcher and 2017 Ri Xmas Lecturer Sophie Scott, on the neuroscience of mental blocks
  • Materials scientist Jamie Gallagher, on why he absolutely can’t bloody stand blocks
