Play table

Play Table with Alex Pearl

This is a past event from Manchester Science Festival 2017.

Part of A Grand Exposition: Arcade

Visitors will be presented with a table piled with found materials and broken objects, motors, basic electronic components, tools, glue and tape (the materials of Alex Pearl’s practice). With varying amounts of guidance from the artist, they will be invited to explore the idea of play as a way of making simple machines without worrying about function, longevity, plans or success. The short life of each machine will then be recorded and uploaded to Instagram where it will live forever, looping to eternity.

Although this activity is suitable for all ages, parents of young children should be aware that some tools will be sharp or hot and due care should be taken.
