This is a past event from Manchester Science Festival 2017.
Manchester innovator JB Dancer invented microfilm in the 1860s by combining microscopes and photography – two new technologies in the Victorian era. In the hybrid spirit of JB Dancer this animation workshop led by Dave Griffiths will combine analogue microfilm readers and digital stop-motion capture to encourage visitors to microscopically observe everyday objects, rubbish, or even their own belongings. Visitors can examine materials and surfaces in fantastic detail, and make them dance through simple stop-frame animation. Short clips produced by visitors will be added to an ongoing projection in the workshop space.
